Municipality Pienza, Province Siena, Region Tuscany Pienza is Renaissance gem in the heart of Tuscany, postcard views, in the middle of one of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas in Italy. Its name and fame derives from Enea Silvio Piccolomini who became known as Pius II. Large part of its most striking architectonic elements were designed under Pope Pius II between 1459 and 1462 who employed Bernardo Rossellino, one of the most famous architects at the time. Pienza è has been listed as part of the Unesco World Heritage thanks to its monuments and its urban layout. Between April and September, Pienza hosts many events. Its pecorino cheese is an absolute delicacy.
