Municipality Pienza, Province Siena, Region Tuscany Pienza is Renaissance gem in the heart of Tuscany, postcard views, in the middle of one of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas in Italy. Its name and fame derives from Enea Silvio Piccolomini who became known as Pius II. Large part of its most striking architectonic elements were designed under Pope Pius II between 1459 and 1462 who employed Bernardo Rossellino, one of the most famous architects at the time. Pienza è has been listed as part of the Unesco World Heritage thanks to its monuments and its urban layout. Between April and September, Pienza hosts many events. Its pecorino cheese is an absolute delicacy. Directions: By car from the north: autostrada A1 Firenze-Roma, exit at Valdichiana/Bettolle, continue towards Torrita di Siena - Pienza and continue towards Pienza. By car from the south: autostrada A1 Roma-Firenze, exit at Chiusi/Chianciano Terme, take the SS 146 to Chianciano Terme, Montepulciano, Pienza. By train: the closest station is at Chiusi Chianciano Terme, along the line Roma-Firenze. By plane: airport of Florence (139 km), airport of Roma Fiumicino (219 km).
